can you get in trouble

if i know a cop is lieing to me can i record everything he is saying without him knowing and get him in trouble. NOTE. this would occure on private property.

In Michigan, you may secretly record any conversation that you participate in. This applies to phone calls and F2F.

This is different in other states that require all participants to agree to let the conversation be recorded.

It is a crime to record any conversation where you are NOT a known participant, and none of the people involved in the conversation know or approved of the recording. This is called Eavesdropping. MCL 750.539c makes it a 2 yr / $2,000 felony.

It is legal for a cop to lie to you. It is a crime for you to lie to a cop.
