Legal Question in Criminal Law in Michigan

We where working on our Landscaping untill 2am with our dogs on the chains. Our friends asked us to have a few drinks at their house. We brought our one dog inside and brought the other outside in her kennel with a scoop of food not expecting to be gone all night. When we got back at around 11:30-12 we noticed our dog was missing so we called the police. Turns out our neighbor called the cops for abusing our dog. We explaned what had happened and the officer just gave us a card. What do we do?

I would advise you to retain the services of a lawyer. Do not speak to or agree to speak to the police, animal control, or anyone about the case without first consulting with a lawyer. Also, if you have regular vet records for the dog showing he is well taken care of I would get them. When/if you get the dog back I would take him immediately to the vet for a check-up. Contact an attorney in the area as quickly as possible that primarily practices criminal defense.
