Legal Question in DUI Law in Michigan

I was arrested 12/15/12 on Stadium Dr. in Kalamazoo, MI. I blew a 0.11 alchohol level and am only 18 years old. I was pulled over for going over the speed limit. MY record is clear besides two speeding tickets. I was in Kalamazoo County jail for 11 hours until I was able to leave Saturday, 12/16/12 around 1 p.m.. I am completely clueless as to what to do in my case. Need help. Thank You.

I recommend you consult with an attorney right away. Yours is a situation that could benefit from meeting with an attorney to discuss the specific facts of your case and what your options are. Simply put, this area of the law is complicated and the likely outcome depends upon the facts of each case.

You should contact a local attorney. He or she will be able to assist you with the procedural aspect of the criminal process involving OWIs. Moreover, they will be able to make sure that your rights are maintained. Drunk driving cases are always specific and need to be looked over by counsel. But in the end, having counsel you will be able to have less stress and know that you are being taken care of. In the end it will be for the best. Good luck.

You are completely clueless if you think getting caught speeding 3 times at age 18 is a clean record. Get your priorities in order. The first one is don't drink any alcohol for the next three years. Stay away from under-age holiday parties. If you get caught anywhere with alcohol in your possession or on your breath, you will violate your bond and be looking at jail time.

Secondly, hire a criminal attorney - not some lawyer friend of your parents who hasn't ever seen the inside of a jail. If you can't afford a lawyer, the court will appoint one for you. Court appointed attorneys can do the job. Your case isn't brain surgery.

Consider doing some verifiable community service work before your first court appearance. You should know that the judge is only going to see you for less than 5 minutes so first impressions are important. Wear a white shirt, dark slacks, and a tie when you make your first appearance. No jeans. Don't worry about being nervous - the judge wants you nervous. if you're not a little scared, the court might think you're not taking the charge seriously.
