Drunk Driving
Well I got and OUIL (Operating Under the Influence of Liquor) in the state of Michigan almost five years ago. I was 19. They didn't fully explain everything to me so I got really scared when I didnt do things I was suppose to. Basically I ended up running away from it and ignored it ever since. I now understand how serious that was and want to clear it up. However I am scared to death of what will happen. I have a three year old son so I dont want to go to jail. So basically I am wondering what they will do to me once I face it.

Re: Drunk Driving
It's not as bad as you think. If you have no other alcohol related crimes, you will not go to jail if you turn yourself in. Call the court first to find out the amount of your bond and bring that amount with you to your arraignment on the bench warrant.
Your case will be handled under the laws in effect on the date of your arrest which were significantly more lenient than the present drunk driving law.
An attorney should help you through this process to give the court the assurance that you will appear for your pretrial.
If you don't turn yourself in, you will be arrested the next time you're pulled over and charged with driving while license suspended and FTA (failed to appear). Your bond will be very expensive and you may spend quite a while in jail. You will also face the wrath of the court for being an absconder and eliminate your chance for a plea bargain.
