OWI / DUI / Drunk Driving--Is There a Difference?
These terms all typically refer to the same thing: a violation of WIS. STATS., (2007-8) section 363.63. There is no difference between these informal terms in penalties. However, the statute specifies dozens of different penalties depending upon the number of previous offenses and other factors. This is a long, complex statute, which, along with its penalty section, consists of six double columned pages of extremely fine print. There are also felony drunken driving offenses for injuring anyone while driving drunk.
