Legal Question in DUI Law in Michigan

MIP while on probation

My 17 year old son just got an MIP in MI. We live in WI. He is currently on probation with a differed sentence for his 1st MIP. Should I be getting him legal council? He goes to court on 6/30.

When your son (or anyone else) is charged with a crime, of course they should have an attorney. You would certainly want a surgeon in the operating room with your son, wouldn't you? If so, you should not consider letting him go into a courtroom without a lawyer.

Yes, your son would benefit from counsel in this situation. The fact that this his second offense will have signifigcant ramifications if he pleads or is found guilty. Which District Court is the case in? Is it the same court that gave him the deferred sentence? Has he started treating with a drug and alcohol counselor yet? If you would like to discuss your son's case in more detail, please call me at 313.963.9500 or 248.709.0236. Thank-you, Don McGuigan
