Legal Question in DUI Law in Michigan

I have plead guilty to the lesser charge of OWI I and it was my second offense....I met with my probation officer and he is suggesting to the judge I receive 60 days house arrest. Is there anyway I can avoid house arrest and/or possible jail time with my case? I go to court to get my sentencing next week....I just need to know the best thing to do, should I go to some AA meetings to show I am attempting to make a change?

Having a conviction for a OWI aka "DUI" in Michigan is serious. Attending AA and getting a sponsor as well as enrolling in an alcohol outpatient program now would be a good idea on your end. This way it will show your sentencing Judge that you are being proactive. If you have a good DUI lawyer now, then you should consult with him/her for advice to avoid jail/house arrest. Almost every Michigan Court and Judge handle OWI convictions differently. Again, I hope you had the best DUI lawyer in Michigan that you could have afforded. This OWI conviction will remain on your record forever and you could be on probation for a long time, especially if this is your second or third OWI offense.

Good Luck

Too late for aa. You needed to get skilled counsel long before going to court. Be happy you get house arrest, most folks would be in county jail. I have other suggestions for you and there are last minute things to be done if you are interested in hiring an attorney before sentencing. kliszlaw.com. Tim Klisz
