state of michigan-dwi laws
to Ms. Arndt: i do not understand-how can a state, after issuing a valid license, and with no notification of a fine, suspend a license over a year after the fact? he moved to colorado in 2005 and turned in a valid michigan for a valid colorado and it would seem to me that the valid colorado license would be enough to attain a florida license. he was never notified of any additional fees/fines that had to be paid.....and lived at the same address in michigan until he moved in 2005.

Florida is very particular about only issuing license to people who have a clear and valid out of state license.

Hi - I responded to the other question you posted addressing this issue. Other lawyers have gratiously provided their response as well. Each state has their own rules regarding the issuance of a driver's license, and remember, a license is a privilege, not a right. Please review my other answer regarding the best way to resolve this issue.
Good luck.
Thanks.

Any State may refuse or suspend a person's driving privileges if another state has suspended them for DUI. The best thing to do is to clear up any problems your son has in Michigan. Get the suspension taken off his record there, and he should not have a problem getting a good license in Florida. The fact he had a valid license in Colorado does not mean a thing, only that they did not check his driving record outside of that state. Florida does check all other state infractions in determining if they will license a person.
