Deed to house question
My mother is in a nursing home-Alzheimers, and has been for 7 years. She had my name added to the deed to her house 25 years ago. When she passes, will the house be owned by me solely or can Medicaid take the house from me? There are no siblings or husband alive.

Re: Deed to house question
In Michgan the home is safe. There is no estate recovery in Michigan. The property assuming it is joint tenants with rights of survivorship will pass to you without probate. However, you will only receive a half step-up in basis.
One more thing I assume you mom is now on mediciad. If not and she is in a nursing home that takes medicaid I can save at a GREAT protion of her existing assets. It is never too later to plan for the NH>
