Pain and suffering
My family is entering into Mediation with the Catholic church,who admitted clergy abuse.My mother has been living with a Priest for 38 years...he recently left her,and commited fraud with both parties...we are to come up with a dollar amount for damages....what do we do ?

Pain and suffering can be measured in a number of ways. As much as possible, it is best to come up with some objective measure of what she suffered. Did she give up a job? Spend money on him? Did her relationship with him change the trajectory of her life in some way? Did she not continue her education because of him?
You need to answer questions like these to give support for the number you come up with. And while you need to be aggressive, you also need to be realistic in order to reach a settlement.
