16 year old legal rights

My 16 year old grandson is very unhappy with his step father and mother he is being mentally abused among other mistreatment can he leave and live with me? I support him and pay for his school. His father, my son, is deceased.

You would either have to get a change in custody, or he is old enough to file for emancipation. However, his mother is entitled to dispute his request for emancipation. However, it sounds like he is a good candidate for emancipation, since he has somewhere to go, another adult to support him, and he is being abused and mistreated at home. You would file your petition for emancipation in the county where the minor resides. The forms and instructions are available online and/or you can contact your county court for instructions.
