adopting a step child

My son is 20 months old. His bilogical father has never seen him, but does know about him. He denies him. The father part of his birth certificate is blank. Paternity has not been established legally. My husband has been my son's ''father'' ever since his birth. What do I have to do in Monroe County for my husband to be able to adopt my son?

In every county, the procedure is essentially the same. A petition for adoption would be filed. The biological father would be notified. If he takes no action, the adoption will almost certainly be granted. If the biological father objects, then he will be faced with the prospect of paying substantial child support. It is doubtful he will object.
