Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

adoption

i gave my father legal custody of my child when he was 2 because I could not care for him. now my son is 13 and wants to come live with me. what are his and my legal rights and how old does he have to be to leave if my father refuses to give him back. he was legally adopted by my father. he lives in the state of michigan and i live in California.
