Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan
adoption of great grandbaby
Hi
Could you tell me:
As great grandparents how would we see about adopting our great grandchild who is 5 months old do we have any rights? We have previously adopted the biological half sister to the above child she is now 6 we would really like them to be raised together.
the mother has already signed gardianship to her boyfriends father( who is single man and in a wheelchair) the boyfriend is not the babys birth father and the boyfriends father does not know this. She has now signed the begining of the adoption papers giving up their rights as parents. We would really want the 2 girls raised together as family but we dont know where to begin who to contact or anything? could you tell me do we have any say and where do we start?

You start at the obvious place. Find an attorney who has experience in adoption and child custody matters. Since you have already been through the adoption process, you should have considerable knowledge about this process. You also have the issue of the present guardianship/custody situation which a court will have to hear to make a decision about the best interests of the child.
Good luck.

As the other attorney told you, don't get just any lawyer.......get someone very experienced with adoption. I suggest that you call Monica Linkner in Ann Arbor. William S. Stern
