Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Can Adoption be reversed

Under duress I adopted my wife's daughter in 1997. We divorced in 2001 and the daughter will have nothing to do with me. I do not pay child support but do cover medical insurance for her. Can this adoption be reversed or is there anything that I can do to give up any parental rights I have towards this child. She will be 18 in April 2004

Re: Can Adoption be reversed

I doubt that you'll get to reverse this adoption. There's no such thing as adopting a child "under duress." No court is going to buy that. You agreed to do it, you didn't have to do it, and you're stuck with it. The child wll be 18 in less than 6 months,--you're not going to get anything much done before then, so I doubt it's worth the money.

You're stuck, unless the mother consents to allowing you to give up the parental rights.Bill Stern 248-353-9400
