Adoption/Chhild Support Arrears

My ex lives in Michigan, my son, husband and I live in Iowa. My husband adopted my son with the ex's consent (while in Iowa). I understand child support would be terminated upon the finalizing of the adoption, but would the ex still be responsible for paying arrears incurred prior to the adoption?

Yes, he should be, unless you guys agreed otherwise at the time of the adoption. If you need help collecting on the arrears, let me know. Either I can help you depending on your location, or I can refer you to someone else. Not sure where the jurisdiction would be on this case - depends where the divorce took place and/or where any child support issues were addressed previously.
