I am sixteen years old, is it legal for me to choose to live with a relative instead of parents?

Of course not. Your parents still make the decisions or you can seek a court order.

You are in Michigan, so I can't speak with the authority of a Michigan lawyer, but most states have statutes which allow a minor to petition for status as an emancipated minor. If you bring such a petition and are successful, you can live with a relative instead.

If your situation at home is intolerable, and you cannot live as an emancipated minor, but have a relative willing to have you live with them, you can report your situation to children's protective services in your County, and if they find you have good cause for wanting to leave your parent's home, they can take legal custody of you and place you for foster care at your relatives.
