Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

alimony

We are doing a do-it yourself divorce however I am the being left with the majority of the debt. My spouse is purchasing a new home and remodeling it. He is still paying the heating/electricity bill while he is still living at the present address. I am paying the second mortgage, property taxes and grocery. I am going to try to get emergency help from the FIA . My question is should I seek alimony from him .

Re: alimony

Why are you agreeing to take most of the debt? Is it because you are keeping the house and the debt is attached to the house? If you cannot afford to pay for the house without alimony, then it probably wouldn't hurt to pursue it, but I would recommend consulting an attorney about this who would know whether you would be likely to get alimony based on your and your husband's financial circumstances.
