Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan
Benefit or Possibility of Getting Lawyer at Last Minute
My divorce is final in 5 days. We didn't use lawyers, even though there are children involved and there were two homes. He has kept to most of his promises, but not all.
My question is he was recently fired from work for loan sharking. He had/has 12,000 - 20,000 out in loans which he is still collecting on. Should that count as part of marital estate?
Can I get a lawyer this late? How?

You can and should obtain an experienced family law attorney IMMEDIATELY. You apparently are not well qualified to practice law. Chances are that the attorney will have to spend some time undoing your errors however in the long run, it will be worth it.

The income from the loan sharking is just that.......income. It is not part of the marital estate. It will increase your child support for that time period. You can get a lawyer. I'm sure that the lawyer will make things lots easier and may point out some giant flaws that occurred. Don't be surprised. William S. Stern
