Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Bitter custody battle

My girlfriend and I have been together going on 7 months. She's going through a custody battle with her ex and things are getting kind of nasty. He's claming that she's unfit which she's not and saying that the kids don't want to be around her. She's scared that the judge is going to take the kids because of what the ex is saying and the fact that she has a live in black boyfriend. She told me that if we got married that it would help her case, but by this being my first marriage I don't wanna do something that I might later regret. What can I do to help out her situation and help keep her kids at home.

The best answer would be to contact an experienced family law attorney to help you both through this difficult situation.

Unfortunately there are many judges who do not think that overnight guests of the opposite sex are appropriate during parenting time. However, this would alone not be enough for the Court to find your girlfriend "unfit."

I would be happy to discuss this matter with you in more detail.
