Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan
Cancer
My sister's husband wants a divorce. The thing is she was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and also found out that she is pregnant. She had a masectamy recently and is undergoing chemo therapy and after the baby, will be recieving radiation and another bout of the chemo. She is concerned about the medical bills and not having health insurance when she begins the radiation. When she starts the radiation, she will not be able to continue working and therefore will not have insurance. I guess the question would be if her husband will have to help her pay those bills, knowingly divorcing her while undergoing treatment and also pregnant? She also has 3 other children to think about on top of the child she is carrying. Please give us some advice.

Re: Cancer
There are lots of holes in the information you gave. Does the husband have health insurance through his employer? If he does not, her bills are going to be so large that the fact that the husband is on the hook won't make much difference. The best advice that I can give you is to support your family in its time of need. In this case, the support would involve dipping into your own pocket and helping her financially to get a decent family law lawyer to help her have protection. That's what families are for. There isn't enough information for any attorney to answer your questions. There are just too many variables that would influence the outcome of her case. I'd be pleased to speak with your sister and try to answer her questions. She call call me at 18005766035.
