Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Change in jurisdiction

What do I have to do to change the jurisdiction of my divorce from Kentucky to Michigan? I've been told by Michigan that I need to do it in court in Kentucky, and the court in Kentucky tells me that I need to do it in Michigan! If you could provide me with the correct information and guide me to a website where I would find the correct information, I would really appreciate your help! Thank you so much!

Re: Change in jurisdiction

First, you must reside in Michigan for 6 months and in the county in which you wish to file for at least 10 days in order for Michigan to accept jurisdiction.

Further, when dealing with issues involving child custody it is also important as to where the children have been physically residing. I suggest you contact and hire a local attorney to assist you in this matter.
