Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Name change other than maiden name

On the divorce papers my ex changed her last name to the last name of a friend rather than going back to her maiden name. Is that legal? Is that enough to make it a legal name or does she have to do more done to permanently & legally make it stand.

She can change her name to anything she wants.
