Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

child custody of non married parents

My son & his girlfriend had a baby 4-12-04 out of wedlock, they got engaged during the pregnancy but have not set a date. post partum blues(moody and cries alot)have set in and they can't get along. she won't let him take his daughter out if the house, and says he doesn't do enough to help take car of her. Which he does change diapers, feds her etc.but he does have to work 10-12 hrrs a day. they are staying with her parents so the situation is tense. where should he begin to get some kind of legal right to have access to his daughter? he wants to be with her and take care of her and mom won't let him?? what do we do??

Re: child custody of non married parents

A good start would be to see an experienced family law practitioner. He or she would get a court order establishing everyone's responsibilities and setting up a court ordered parenting time schedule. Feel free to call me at 248-353-9400 if you are in the tri-county area (Wayne, Oakland, Macomb). Bill Stern
