Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan
How old does a child have to be to decide who he/she wants to live with? There is no divorce active, just a trial seperation. Child lives in Michigan with verbaly abusive father who is destroying his self esteem. Mother wants to live in New Mexico and temperarely stay with her daughter until she has established a place of her own. The boy in question is 12 years of age and is currently visiting his older sister who works for a hospital and is in college for the entire summer.

Children do not get to make these decisions. When they turn 18, they are adults and they can make these decisions for themselves.
