Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

child support arrears

I am a resident I Texas, my ex-wife and children are residents of Michigan. My ex and children moved to Michigan and she divorced me from Michigan. I lost my job and now I am in arrears in my child support payments. I received a normal letter in the mail last week stating I had to appear in court or be held in contempt and thus a bench warrant would be issued. If a bench warrant is issued in the state of Michigan, will I be arrested in the state of Texas? Is there anything I can do to stop the bench warrant?(Short of paying the arrears, if I had the money I would have paid)I am very willing to pay the support when I find a job, but I can't make payments if I have no money. Please help!

You should take steps to have someone appear for you in Michigan.

Re: child support arrears

Assuming that the child support order is from a Michigan court, you will need a Michigan attorney. What county is your case in?

It may also be possible to have your child support lowered if you are unemployed.
