Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Child Support

My ex is living in Florida and is supposed to pay $842 per month child support for 4 kids. He has quit his job and is moving back to Michigan, where the kids and I live. He told me he will live on welfare before he pays me $800 per month. There is no way he will even make $800 per month in this area. Will they drop his child support payments? I heard that in MI if you quit a job to avoid child support, they won't drop the amount. Is this true?
