Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Child Support

I am a non custodial parent who pays weekly support ordered by the divorce. My ex-husband is constantly harassing me for additional money. What are my legal rights regarding this issue. Should not child support be used for all childs needs. Thank you for any help you can provide.

Re: Child Support

Just pay the money required through the Friend of the Court and refuse to pay additional sums outside of the required amounts. In other words, learn to say "No". Bill Stern 248-353-9400

Re: Child Support

This is a good question, but you certainly should know that child support is but a drop in the bucket. It never covers the true needs of the child: housing, electricity, food, clothing, school supplies, laundry soap...all of that goes into raising a child and is not fully accounted for in child support.

Other than reasonable parental expenses when the child is with you, you are only obligated to pay the child support. If he wants more money, tell him to file a petition with the court, which requires a showing of changed circumstances. For the sound of things, there isn't anything he can do.

Your ex has NO business asking you for more money for anything other than childcare/mdeical, and these too go through the FOC.
