if a person is in jail are they still required by law to pay child support, while they are in jail

Being in jail will not relieve a person of the child support obligation. the only thing that will do that is to obtain a court order saying that support is lowered or abolished. However, since the acts that landed one in jail are normally voluntary, it is doubtful that a person could get an order eliminating support by being in jail. William S. Stern
