Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Child support

I started to pay my ex wife child support as soon as we split up in April 2006. The courts set child support to date from May 2007. Can I get credit for the amount of money I sent her from April 2006 to May 2007? Would I have to pay the difference from what I pay her now and what I paid her at that time?

Re: Child support

You are responsible for the support of your child. You cannot deduct the amount paid prior to the court order from the support ordered by the court. You are not responsible to pay the court ordered support for the time period before the order. You would get credit for the voluntary payments against any child support the court ordered you to pay for the time prior to the actual cour hearing.
