Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

child support

my wife and I are in the process of a divorce. I was not involved throughout the entire pregnancy and was not their for my childs birth. we seperated two weeks before we knew she was pregnant. she went to live with her mother. I didnt believe she was pregnant with my child. I had a dna done 5 weeks after she was born and I am the father. My question is .......when do I start paying child support: from the time my daughter was born?? or when our divorce is final??

Re: child support

The court will figure that out for you, but legally you are responsible for child support from the day the child was born, if you were not residing with the child and mother, or otherwise supporting them. I strongly suggest you retain a lawyer to assist you with the process to ensure you fully understand the court's decision and your legal rights.

Re: child support

It is likely the judge will order child support from the child's date of birth. It is very important that you have an experienced family law attorney representing your interest in the divorce case. If you fail to get an attorney to protect you, it may well cost you big money in the long run.
