Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

child support after 17 years

Found out I have nephew that is 17, grandparents have agreed to paternity testing. My husband believes this is his brothers child. Can the birth mother or child collect back support. We are going to have dna testing done first of next week. Potential father refuses dna testing even though he is a clone of him.

Re: child support after 17 years

Judge has extreme discretion concerning back support. Since the mother waited so long, chances are back support will not be great. However, with the brother's attitude, he'll complain no matter what. Steps could be taken to make sure that any back support actually benefits the 17 year old and not the mother, although she did spend $ raising the child. Bill Stern 248-353-9400
