Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan
Common Law Relationships
Is there any such thing anymore--name removed--I have been living with him for 16 years and an afraid to leave with nothing, or be able to get material items out that I had before or had purchased during our relationship.

Michigan has done away with common law marriage since 1957. You may be able to get your things, however. A lawyer will have to file a Claim and Delivery action to get your stuff. William S. Stern

There is no such thing in Michigan and never has been. If you're not married, you have no property rights.
