please help us!!!
my dad died july 4,2008 myself and sister buired him with the cash from our pocket.which was hard because he had no insurance.social services got in touch with us about him haveing some money but they say it may all go to his mother i need to know why?

Don't worry - they may have spoken without knowing what they were talking about. It depends what kind of benefits or money they were referring to. For example, social security provides money to the surviving spouse of the deceased. Life insurance goes to whoever is listed as the beneficiary on the policy, or as directed by a Will. Did your father have a will? If he died without a will, then the default distribution is that his assets go to the surviving spouse. However, you can always dispute this distribution by opening a probate case regarding your father's assets, which you will need a lawyer to assist you with.
