Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

So my daughter's father has absolutely nothing to do with her. She has my last name and he isn't on the birth certificate. He has never met her. I have asked him to sign off rights, but he wasn't sure. If he's willing to sign off rights, could he do that voluntarily?

Yes, he can sign away his parental rights voluntarily. However, something to keep in mind is that even if he does that it doesn't get him off the hook for child support if you decided to pursue it. Also, if you are receiving now or may receive any governmental assistance in the future they will require you to seek child support as a contingency for receiving the aid. He would only be signing off his parental rights, not his parental obligations. His child support obligation would legally cease only if the child was adopted by someone else.
