is it accurate that what one person brings to a marriage remains the sole property of that individual when the marriage dissolves or is it considered 'joint assets'?

This is a very complicated question and depends on a number of things. It depends on if there is a prenuptial agreement in place, it depends on what type of property it is and how it is held during the marriage, it depends on the length of the marriage and many other factors. There are also scenarios where even separate property can be considered "joint" in a divorce if certain legal standards are met. This is a question that should be addressed to an attorney who can then address the specific factual background and give proper advice.
