Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Divorce, Alimony

My son has asked me to post this question to get some idea of wht he is up against. He is planning to divorce his 42 year old wife of 19 years, after learning she's having another affair, among many. There are no children under 18. His wife has MS, is on social security disability and also works caring for elderly people in the clients homes. My son has bugged her car and his home to obtain proof thinking it will be beneficial in court, if she tries to get alimony. He knows he has to hire a lawyer at some point as she is the type that will try to financially clean him out.

He owns a home and 20 acres, is still paying on it but does have some equity in it. He has a lot of valuable tools he uses in his trade of licensed mechanic. He's willing to give her what she deserves but does not want to pay her alimony. Will her affairs be an issue in determining if she gets alimony or not? Is there a reasonably priced lawyer out there that will represent him, as he doesn't make a lot of money and is feeling the crunch of our depressed michigan economy.

Re: Divorce, Alimony

Maybe. It depends on the judge and most do not feel that an affair is enough to bar alimony.

Re: Divorce, Alimony

Asking a lawyer to give a legitimate opinion on your son's case with a few facts given on the internet, is silly.

This is similar to posting some symptoms that your son is having and asking a doctor to diagnose a disease. It can't be done with any real accuracy.

Everyone is Michigan is feeling the touch economy. He needs to meet with an experienced and aggressive family law attorney before he does further harm to himself. (If he were sick, chance are that he'd be seeing a doctor rather than having his father post symptoms on the internet and asking for a medical diagnosis, right?)
