Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan
Divorce, Michigan or Oregon?
If, due to job loss, a person has had to move from Michigan to accept work in Oregon for the last two years, but has been unable to sell their home still in Michigan and still holds ownership and title, in which state can and more importantly, which state SHOULD one file for divorce, Michigan or Oregon? There is a minor child involved.

While we am not familiar with the Oregon residency statute, Michigan statute allows a divorce to be filed in Michigan if the complainant(filer) or the defendant (spouse) has resided in Michigan the past 180 days. The complaint also must be filed in a County where either party has resided for 10 days immediately preceding the filing.
