Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan
Divorce Settlement Collection
My EX is $15,000.00 in arrears for Child Support. The Judge also ordered him to pay $102,000.00 to pay back the divorce settlement he pissed away (sorry, lack of better words). He is now paying his monthly child support and $50.00/wk toward Child Support arrears. There is an Income withholding to include the ''Spousal Support'', but due to lack of enough income, this too is just going into arrears.
What I want to know, is if there is another way for me to go about getting this settlement money. It was for me to be able to buy a house for me and my two children. It will take him 20+ years to ever pay this off and the kids will be long gone. He has a house now, but has carefully put it only in his new wifes name, along with all his other assets. From what I understand, they are still considered ''marital property'' and what I was wondering if I would be able to have a lien put against it. It's been 4 years since our divorce and I have not received but $800.00 toward this settlement.

Re: Divorce Settlement Collection
You may be able to get somewhere if you can show that he is hiding assets by dumping them into the house with his wife. Since he has low income, that may be difficult. Where did the $102,000 go? Into the new house? If so, that is where you should go. Bill Stern 248-353-9400
