Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Divorce

My wife and I split up about 14 years ago when she left the country. We got married at the embassy in Seoul. She got a ''quickie'' divorce in Korea, but I have not filed here. I do not know her location and she does not know mine. She left behind my son who I have been the provider for, he is now seventeen. I am about to become engaged and was wondering what action I need to take as she will not be able to sign any papers.

Re: Divorce

There are several steps you have to follow to have the court approve an alternative method of service of process, other than having her personally served. Once you get the court's approval to serve her by other methods, such as by publication in the newspaper, service by certified mail upon her last known address, service on her relatives, etc., then she is considered "served" and you can proceed with the case, and eventually get a judgment even if she never responds or appears.

Please contact me if you'd like to retain a lawyer to assist you through this process.

Thanks.
