Emancipation

Can you please tell me what age a child has to be to become emancipated from his family. I have a friend of the family who would like to live with us. We wanted to know the legalities for the state of Michigan. Thank you,--name removed--Rathka

It would be much easier to have your parents named as the kid's guardian. This takes care of legal issues. For emancipation, the child must be able to earn a living independently. William Stern
