Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Father recovered alcoholic - wife in control.

My father was admitted to the hospital 3 years ago with alcohol poisoning and alchohol induced dementia, later transferred to a long care rest-home. He is now ward of court, and his wife is legal gaurdian. Through therapy and medication over 2.5 years, he has reversed the dementia and fully capable of taking care of himself, but wife, who is not his gaurdian, will not let him come home despite his demands. Question: How can my father have his rights and personal freedom restored? What if he wants separation or divorce from wife who is in charge of, but no longer wants anything to do with him. Given reason is that he ''might drink again'', even though he insists that he won't. At least 3 of his 10 children are willing to take him in. He just wants to be free from institutional living.
