Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan
Figuring income for support when self-employed
I currently work full-time as a medical secretary. I also do medical transcription at home part-time. The home-based business is a partnership between my husband and me. I am pregnant and with the cost of child care, am considering working soley from home once the baby is born to save that expense. I would increase the volume of transcription that I do. If I do this, can my ex-husband (our two children are with him the majority of the year) claim imputed income? Also, would all of the income from the partership be considered my income or 50% since it is a partnership?

Why do you call it a partnership? What does your husband actually do? It sounds like you are calling it a partnership in order to justify dividing your income by 1/2. Does your husband work at any other job? If so, it sounds like it is your business. Bill Stern 248-353-9400
