Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Filing For Joint Custody

My 18 year old son wants to file for joint custody of his 3 month old son. The mother is in total agreement and consents to the decision. Do I really need a lawyer or can I file on my own?

Re: Filing For Joint Custody

Your son can do this on his own, you cannot file on behalf of your 18 year old son. But if he does this without an attorney, there is no guarantee that the joint parenting agreement will be fair. He may forget to address something that later turns out to be major. If the mother is in agreement, it should not be THAT costly to hire an attorney to help him with this.
