Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

final judgment child support

I had a final judgment set in Michigan for rears on child support that is almost paid and the judge said no other state could collect. Now Louisiana is trying to collect and keeping my tax rebate. My ex lives in Louisiana and my child is almost 21 now. I have never lived in Louisiana. We were divorced in Michigan and child support was set there and settled there. What are the laws on a final judgment? When is it over? How can I stop other states she may live in from coming after me. I belive this is happening because she is getting state help on benefits, she has 2 other minor children that are not mine. The judge said they couldn't, but they are???

It sounds like Louisiana might be confused or there is a messup in the paperwork. If you are current or paid up in Michigan, you need to send that paperwork to the court in Louisiana (or whoever is trying to collect from you), along with an explanation that the other children are not yours (which should be clear on the judgment anyways).

If you need a lawyer to assist you with resolving this, please let me know. You want to address the issue, and not ignore it, because as you can see, Louisiana is trying to garnish, and won't stop until it is cleared up.
