Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan
financial information request
In the state of Michigan, is it proper for a county family court to request bank account numbers, beneficiaries of insurance policies and the like? All IRS tax forms are already submitted to the court which contain all pertinent financial information in regards to child support. Also, what happens if a person fails to comply with this request? Please help, I need information as soon as possible.

Re: financial information request
If the court thinks that you have more money than you're letting on, then yes, they can ask for the bank and other records to determine what action to take against you. Nowadays, they have incredible powers over child support enforcement and if you don't want to give the records up, then you'd better pay up. And, make sure your kids are on your life insurance policies. That's a no brainer and a clear indicator of where your head is when it comes to their future welfare.
Re: financial information request
When you say a family court, it doesn't tell me who is requesting the information or for what purpose. If it is relation to a divorce property settlement, it is generally required to disclose such informatio if asked. Likewise, in relation to child support, if relevant, it would be required to disclose such information. Bill Stern
