Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Financial Responsibility

My husband announced he wanted a divorce a few months ago. He still lives in the house, but insists he wants to sell it, I don't. He is not contributing his share of the household finances for bills. We are therefore falling behind. Is there a way to force or garnish his wages so that household bills can be paid. I'm doing the best I can with my income, but it's not enough to cover what he ceased to contribute.

Re: Financial Responsibility

You cannot garnish wages or force someone to pay without a court order. In this case a judgment of divorce would allow the finances between you and your husband to be shared and force your husband to meet his financial obligations. However, do YOU want a divorce? Divorce is not merely a financial remedy, and it should be thoroughly and carefully considered. If you have further questions please contact me at [email protected] or consult my attorney profile.

Re: Financial Responsibility

The only way you can force him to contribute to these expenses is to begin a divorce action and ask the judge to order your husband to make appropriate payments. Then your husband could be incarcerated for failing to obey the court order. Please contact an attorney immediately to protect yourself. John C. Talpos (http://www.Mich-lawyer) 525 E.
