Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Friend of the court

My ex and I have a court date because I want the child support payments to go through the friend of the court now, would you see any reason the judge wouldn't allow this?

Re: Friend of the court

It takes both parties to agree to opt out of Friend of the Court, so if one party wants to remain in Friend of the Court (or later on go through Friend of the Court), the request is generally granted. However, it does always depend on what Judge you have and what County, as each County Court and Judge is different, but generally in my experience the Judges prefer that the parties go through Friend of the Court because it is easier to document the child support, and also address other issues like parenting time and custody. Good luck to you!
