Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

Grandparent trying to control parents

Grandparent threatening to petiton for visitation. The thing is she's 3 and he can come see her WHEN EVER he wants, but he wants to override myself and my husbands decicion not to let her go away yet. And he hasn't taken advantage of coming to see her.I have 4 childern (18,14,11) and he hasn't even keep in contact with them and lives 10 miles away.Didn't even call on their birthdays, and they know their Grandpa and were very close at one time.He divorced my mom 5 yrs ago and remarried, and has been a differnt person since. He hasn't talked to me or my husband in three years because when we went to the hospital to give birth it happened so fast(45mins.)and my husband was such a wreck he didn't call anyone he stayed with me. My father wouldn't even come to the hospital to see me and the baby. He was so inraged and I couldn't figure out why till someone told me that he was planning behind my back to come in the delivery room with a video camera AND his NEW wife! And he had the nerve to call the morning after I gave birth wanting to come pick her up! She was 1 Day old and breast fed! It was like he wan't my baby and was totally irrational. How many mothers let their 1 day old go away? Since he hasn't talked to me just threatened me Xm

Re: Grandparent trying to control parents

Don't worry about it. He'll have no standing to bring any action because there is not a divorce petition or other action pending in court. Bill Stern

Re: Grandparent trying to control parents

Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it, grandparents have no right to access to a grandchild. Grandparents access to grandchildren is at the whim of the parents. No court in Michigan will enforce his right to see your child. For more info, please contact my office at (248)851-3171.
