Legal Question in Family Law in Michigan

grandparenting time

My ex-husband is in prison. For many reasons, I have refused to let his grandmother see our son. Now, she is bringing me to court for grandparenting time. Is this possible seeing as she is my sons Great granmother?

Re: grandparenting time

Although Michigan does not guarantee or have laws that permit grandparenting time - or those with family members other than the natural parents - there have been exceptions - it all depends on her reasons, her relationship with the child, and the reasons for your objections.

Courts always use the "best interests of the child" standard when making these decisions, so I suggest you do the same for the sake of your child.

If you need an attorney to assist you in opposing the visitation, or working out an agreement with her, please contact me.

Thanks.

Re: grandparenting time

Typically, Courts do not recognize grandparenting time rights, although I have seen a few exceptions. Good luck.
